Optokoppler is a project by Bernhard Rasinger and Philipp Haffner.
Bernhard Rasinger and Philipp Haffner met in 2016 to discover their mutual passion for the artistic use of analogue oscilloscopes in conjunction with modular synthesizers. But the two are not completely alike. Bernhard´s favored tool for visualization of sound is the laser. Philipp specializes in analogue video synthesis based on the LZX Industries video system. The combination of those two crafts now had to be explored.
Optokoppler was born at Vector Hack Festival 2018 as a basic idea to fuse these two approaches into one coherent performance.
The initial goal of this collaboration was to apply the technique of vector rescanning to a laser system, only by using hardware. Until now this goal is still unachieved – The joined explorations however, revealed other interesting combinations apart from the original idea and marks a path into aesthetic minimalism. Fundamental waveforms displayed in high contrast, complemented by the unimaginable dimension of video feedback, form a mesmerizing audiovisual experience.
